attend 4th World Movement for Democracy assembly

Dr
Chee Soon Juan will attend the 4th Assembly of the
World Movement for Democracy (WMD) in Istanbul, Turkey from 2-5
Apr 06.
WMD is an international network of democracy
practitioners and activists. It holds the assembly bi-annually
(www.wmd.org).
More
than 500 activists, trade unionists, scholars, and policy makers
engaged in promoting democracy around the world will attend the
conference.
The theme of the conference is Advancing
Democracy: Justice, Pluralism, and Participation. The
assembly will focus on how
democrats
can advance their work and mutually support each other.
Dr
Chee will highlight the upcoming general elections in Singapore
to the participants and call attention to the undemocratic nature
of elections controlled by the PAP, especially the buying of
votes under the guise of giving out bonuses and intimidation of
voters through the HDB upgrading scheme.
