Be a rebel . . . tell the truth We place our hands on our hearts and pledge to “build a democratic society” when we have no freedom of speech. We say that we are an information hub when our media is completely under government control. We say we believe in the rule of law when the Internal Security Department tortures dissidents. We need to stop lying to ourselves. The longer we do, the harder our fall will be in the future. The Singapore Democrats are at the forefront of speaking up for the people of Singapore - we always have. We want a democratic future where people behave like citizens, not slaves. Without democracy we remain helpless when the PAP government passes laws without consulting the people. Without democracy we are at the mercy of the PAP when it cuts our wages while paying its ministers more than the president of the United States. Without democracy we can do nothing when the the PAP tells us to speak up and then persecutes us when we do. Democratic freedoms ensure economic security and progress for all the people, not just the rich. They guarantee us the right to live with dignity and justice.
